Lo que sigue es un método de estudio, el llamado método de Cornell desarrollado por el Dr. Walter Paulk. ¿Por qué un método de estudio si estudiar es relativamente fácil, es solo cuestión de esfuerzo?, sigue leyendo, la respuesta está en los siguientes pasos.
A menudo los estudiantes piensan que como entienden todo lo que se dice en clase, lo van a recordar luego. Esto es absolutamente erróneo. En clase, el alumno entiende una transparencia porque además de la información escrita en ella, cuenta con muchos mas datos que el profesor comunica de viva voz. Por ello, la única forma de poder recordarlo mas tarde es tomar notas.
Además, tomar notas tiene más ventajas añadidas:
- Ayuda a mantener la atención, ya que si no se está atendiendo no se pueden tomar notas. Esto hace que la sesión de clase sea mucho más productiva.
- Ayuda a recordar. El hecho de escribir notas de clase hace que se recuerden mucho mejor los contenidos de la clase que si sólo se ha estado escuchando.
- Permite conocer qué es lo importante de las transparencia.
- Facilita el estudio, ya que las notas personales con el estilo de cada uno, son más fáciles de recordar que el texto de las transparencias.
El método de Cornell.
Primer paso: preparar el material necesario.
Para tomar notas lo mejor es usar una hoja grande de papel con sitio suficiente que permita distribuir las notas holgadamente. El tamaño A4 (21 cm x 27’9 cm) es ideal.
Sobre la hoja se dibuja una línea horizontal a 5 cm de borde inferior, y la mitad superior se divide en otras dos zonas mediante una línea vertical dibujada a 6 cm del borde izquierdo.
Las notas se escriben en la zona de la derecha, mientras que en la zona de la izquierda, se escribe alguna palabra o idea clave para cada párrafo. El área inferior se reserva para hacer un resumen de la página y anotar las dudas que puedan surgir al estudiar esa página. Si se tienen anotadas las dudas no se olvidará nada al preguntar al profesor o a otros compañeros.
Segundo paso: durante la clase.
Sé ordenad@: fecha las páginas y numéralas.
Toma tus propias notas. Siempre es preferible ya que te será mas fácil recordar los contenidos si los has anotado con tu propio estilo, lenguaje, etc. que si lees las notas de otro compañer@.
Escribe de manera legible. No intentes aprovechar cada centímetro cuadrado de papel. Deja líneas en blanco entre cada dos ideas diferentes para separalas. Además deja espacios en blanco para poder completar más tarde, por ejemplo: al oír el resumen al final de la clase o el resumen al comienzo de la siguiente. También al completar las notas de clase con otros materiales como libros, información de internet, etc.
Usa abreviaturas, pero sé consistente. Ten un sistema de puntuación y abreviaturas que tenga sentido para ti y usa siempre el mismo. Cuando anotes ideas desarrolladas mediante viarios puntos numéralos y usa sangrado para que se distingan bien.
Usa tus propias palabras, pero intenta conservar el sentido de las frases. Por supuesto que hay cosas que deben anotarse de forma exacta como: fórmulas, definiciones y hechos específicos.
¿Qué se debe anotar?
Tomar unas buenas notas no consiste en escribir punto por punto todo lo que diga el profesor en clase. Para tomar buenas notas hay que saber discernir lo realmente importante y anotarlo de manera precisa. El profesor durante su explicación normalmente da pistas sobre qué es lo importante. Podemos considerar que algo dicho por el profesor es importante si:
* Forma parte del resumen de la clase anterior al comienzo de clase.
* Forma parte del resumen de lo explicado al final de la clase.
* Está escrito en la pizarra.
* Se repite varias veces.
* Se enfatiza mediante el tono de voz o los gestos.
* Va precedido de frases como: “en conclusión…”, “hay que tener en cuenta que…”, “no se puede olvidar que…”, “Esto es importante porque…”, etc.
Tercer paso: después de la clase.
Dado que la mayoría de la información se olvida inmediatamente después de la clase, intenta “consolidar” tus notas tan pronto como puedas. Lo ideal es hacerlo justo después de clase.
Escribe las palabras o ideas clave de cada párrafo lo antes posible cuando todavía recuerdas el desarrollo de la clase. Estas palabras clave son muy importantes ya que actúan como disparadores para tu memoria durante el estudio de las notas.
Relee toda la clase para tener una idea de conjunto de la estructura de las ideas contenidas en ella. Durante este proceso intenta formular preguntas cuya respuesta sean las notas que estás repasando.
Si durante todo este proceso descubres que no entiendes algo apunta qué es y cual es la duda. Hazlo de la forma más precisa que puedas. A menos que puedas consultar la duda inmediatamente con tu profesor, lo más probable es que cuando consultes con él ya no recuerdes todos los detalles de tu duda.
Cuarto paso: durante el estudio.
Recita la clase cubriendo con un papel de 15 cm x 22’9 cm la zona de notas y dejando visible la zona de palabras clave. Recita usando tus propias palabras los hechos e ideas concretas que vengan a tu memoria al leer la palabra clave que actúa como disparador. A continuación comprueba la respuesta. Corrígete si es necesario y repite el proceso hasta que puedas recordar la información.
Una vez aprendida la clase, razona sobre las notas que has tomado. Razonar consiste en establecer conexiones entre el contenido de la clase y el contenido de otras clases, de otras asignaturas o tus propias experiencias personales. Ten en cuenta que en los exámenes son raras las preguntas del tipo: escribe todo lo que sepas sobre el tema X. Son más frecuentes las preguntas del tipo semejanzas y diferencias entre A y B, o qué implicaciones tiene C. Para poder responder a estas preguntas no basta con recitar las notas y aprendérselas, hay que razonar sobre ellas.
Para razonar sobre unas notas de clase puede ser útil plantearse entre otras las siguientes preguntas: ¿Cómo puede esto aplicarse?, ¿cuáles son las principales aplicaciones de esto?, ¿a qué se parece?, ¿qué nuevas cuestiones surgen a raíz de esto?, ¿qué principios ya aprendidos se aplican aquí?, etc. El resultado de este razonamiento sirve para completar las notas usando los huecos en blanco dejados anteriormente.
Recapitula tus notas escribiendo un resumen en la zona inferior de cada página. Este resumen te permitirá repasar de forma muy rápida las clases. Además del resumen de cada página puedes escribir un resumen del tema completo al final de las notas de ese tema. Este último resumen tiene la ventaja de que te sirve para repasar la estructura del tema de forma sencilla.
Repasa tus notas de vez en cuando. Una vez estudiado un tema te lo sabes, pero a medida que pasa el tiempo se tiende a olvidar. Repasarlo de vez en cuando ayuda a fijar los conocimientos de forma permanente.
