Uno de los tesoros mejores guardados de nuestro continente es la cinematografía uruguaya contemporánea, merecedora de innumerables galardones internacionales pero nunca exhibida en nuestro país por las salas comerciales.
Caracterizado por poseer una común mirada contemplativa e irónica de la vida, el cine uruguayo realizado en los últimos años ha trascendido en su elaboración de un lenguaje propio y alejado de los cánones industriales impuestos por el mercado. Cine Club de la Universidad de Chile dedicará un mes entero a revisar el panorama del cine realizado en los últimos años, siendo la muestra más completa de cine uruguayo realizada en Chile.
Las proyecciones contemplan la exhibición de “25 Watts” (2001) y “Whisky” (2004) ambas de Pablo Stoll y Juan Pablo Rebella, consideradas las películas mas importantes producidas en el país en los últimos años y en gran medida las responsables de abrir las puertas del viejo continente para la cinematografía oriental. Rebella, quien se suicidara en 2006 cuando apenas cumplía 32 años de edad, dejó inconclusa una promisoria carrera, y sus películas serán exhibidas en conjunto por vez primera en Chile.
Entre las películas seleccionadas también se cuenta “Acné” (2008), ópera prima de Federico Veiroj que retrata el mundo de un adolescente que no ha dado aún su primer beso, y que fue Estrenada en la Quincena de Realizadores del Festival de Cannes 2008, además de ser premiada en el AFI Festival de Los Angeles, EEUU y obtener el 3º Coral de Opera Prima en el Festival del nuevo cine latinoamericano de La Habana 2008 – Cuba. La muestra también contempla “Matar a Todos” (2007) primer largometraje del destacado cineasta Esteban Schröeder, y que en clave de ficción profundiza en el caso verídico de Eugenio Berríos, químico chileno que trabajó para la DINA elaborando armas químicas -como el Gas Sarín-, y que en el marco de la operación Cóndor fue ocultado en Uruguay, apareciendo asesinado en dicho país en extrañas circunstancias.
La muestra la completa el film “La Perrera” (2006), de Manuel Nieto, y que relata la historia de un haragán muchacho obligado por su padre a construirse su propia casa. En una vida en que hay “tantos perros como personas”, como reflexiona el personaje, este viaje significará un descenso por las experimentaciones de toda índole, siendo la película una reflexión sobre el consumo de drogas y la incomunicación.
Las exhibiciones se realizarán todos los miércoles a las 18:30 hrs. en el Auditórium Jorge Müller del Instituto de la Comunicación e Imagen ICEI ubicado en el Campus Juan Gómez Millas de la Universidad de Chile (Ignacio Carrera Pinto 1045 Ñuñoa), la entrada es liberada.

Un grupo de muchachos desempleados vagan por la ciudad de Montevideo matando el tiempo. El vacío existencial, la falta de oportunidades y el desamor rodean cada intento de este grupo por tratar de avanzar en la vida.
ACNÉ Federico Veiroj (2008)
Un adolescente no ha dado aún su primer beso. Está enamorado de una chica que parece no notar su presencia. Veiroj plantea a partir de una anécdota pequeña una metáfora de las relaciones humanas contemporáneas.

Una de las películas mas galardonadas de la historia del Uruguay, “Whisky” es el relato de dos personas maduras pero solas en unas vidas mínimas. Ella trabaja en una fábrica de calcetines y él es su jefe, teniendo ambos una relación de amistad en la que prácticamente no se hablan.
LA PERRERA Manuel Nieto (2006)
La historia se centra en el desesperado y poco afortunado David, un joven de 25 años que ha fracasado como estudiante y perdió la beca estudiantil que lo mantenía en Montevideo. Para recuperarla tiene que aprobar un examen, pero entre tanto su padre, que tiene una casita en La Pedrera, le exige que construya otra, bastante precaria, en un terreno cercano.
MATAR A TODOS Esteban Schröeder (2008)
La película recrea un thriller político: el caso de Eugenio Berríos y el presunto asesinato del ex presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva, en el marco de distintos episodios de la Operación Cóndor, combinando la ficción con lo real. Coproducción de: Chile, Argentina, Alemania y Uruguay. Declarada de “Interés Nacional” por la Presidencia de la República de Uruguay.
